MINA is the third protagonist and quadruplet introduced in the saga and is a feisty tomboy with attitude. She possesses a pair of crystal earrings which camouflage her against any background, giving her the power of invisibility, along with the ability to walk through structures such as walls and move, without touch, solid objects like metal and wood. She was raised in London by a close friend of her mothers, a half Chinese and half English MI6 agent LEI, who has also given her advanced martial arts and gymnastics training.
Rebellious and problematic by nature, Mina has a volatile relationship with Lei and any other figure of authority. Lei, following the loss of her daughter and husband during the Pandemic, has given Mina too much freedom. Mina gets into constant mischief with her skateboarding friends.
Returning to Vivacity Island Tammy comes to Jude’s rescue and saves her from being abducted from the aliens. During the rescue, Tammy is seriously injured and comes close to death, which delays their search for her sister. They eventually locate Mina and help her to escape. Forever the outsider, Mina finds it hard to bond with her brother and sister and instead becomes resentful of them. She is jealous of Tammy’s kind and generous nature and how everyone seems to prefer her company and remains completely unaware of her own anti-social attitude. Mikie tries to bring them together to make friends. Mina, however, attempts to cause a rift between Mikie and Tammy, which fails, and she feels forced to run away.
Stephen and Lei go looking for Mina but are captured and taken to the Mothership and imprisoned. Mina, using her invisible powers, is undetected and sees them captured. She follows them and has no choice but to work together with Tammy and Mikie and rescue the captives. We meet Clarissa, a giant colossal squid-like creature forced to live onboard the ship and work for the aliens. Clarissa plays a pivotal role in enabling their escape in return for freedom in Australia’s Great Barrier reef. Clarissa will be a massive part in the future war and help with the ocean’s creatures.
Mina discovers a room of Halflings; half alien and half human children being experimented on by Marcellus and refuses to leave them. These children do not possess the same powers as the Children of Pisces, the quadruplets: Marcellus is desperate and will go to any lengths to find out why. Romance continues to blossom between Tammy and Jax but an unexpected romance also begins between Stephen and Lei. Mikie, with his telepathic abilities, understands more about Mina than anyone realises and remains sceptical about her allegiance. His doubts have good foundation but not everyone is willing to hear it. The novel ends with them hiking throughout the Rainforests in South America, to find the final quadruplet, their brother Diego. He is suspected of hiding in Peru amongst the last Inca tribe and they must reach him before Marcellus does. Lieutenant Kodo, an ambitious alien, locates Diego and it is a race against time to see who gets to him first.
