In 2018 a chance discovery in an antique store seems to confirm the family legend William has heard all his life. His ancestors have lived in Smithfield for generations. In 1861, just before the onset of the Civil War, the Scott family is offered a chance to help change the lives of many freedom seeking African-Americans by becoming part of the Underground Railroad. This decision could cost them everything. Their young daughter, Anna, is herself changed by this decision when she encounters another little girl, Chaney, whose life is so different from hers. What can Anna possibly do to help those that are fleeing slavery? Her small but earnest actions ripple over generations. William tries to piece together the story - and - descendants - of the recipients' of ANNA'S DOLLS.
